The Miniver Rose slightly hampered soon after start, soon chasing leaders, edged right and stayed on to lead well inside final furlong
Union Island led, edged right over 1f out, headed and no extra last 75yds
Headline Act slowly into stride, headway over 2f out, stayed on inside final furlong
Holberg with leaders, edged right and left final furlong, faded towards finish
Mustaqer tracked leaders, took keen hold, effort 2f out, kept on same pace final furlong
Royal Trooper in rear, headway 3f out, never reached leaders
Double Rubble held up, in rear, headway 2f out, never troubled leaders
Maybeme gave problems going to start, hampered start, soon prominent, weakened over 1f out
Acclaim To Fame in rear, driven and some headway 3f out, weakened over 1f out, eased
Play To Win started slowly, soon outpaced in rear, behind final 3f
Haulage Lady swerved right start, with leaders, took keen hold, lost place 2f out, eased and soon behind
THE MINIVER ROSE, in contrast, settled kindly behind the leaders and responded well when asked to lengthen. A daughter of High Chaparral, she cost 100,000gns and could be useful next season when she steps up to middle distances.
Union Island put up a good effort at Haydock on his debut in similar conditions, and this was another sound effort, although it has to be said that he was always well placed in a race not run at a strong gallop.
Holberg made his debut over 6f, shaping as though this longer trip would suit. Up there throughout, he battled on well under pressure and looks to be going the right way.
Royal Trooper showed more than on his debut, but he looks more of a handicap type for next year, while Double Rubble is not necessarily bred to be effective in these conditions, and being a son of a triple dirt winner he might be of more interest if turning up on the Polytrack.
Richard Hills reported that Mustaqer ran too free. (SE)
