West With The Wind has been held in handicap company on his last two starts, but those efforts, coupled with his previous form in maidens still made him by far the likeliest winner on paper. A one-paced galloper, he was soon in front and tried to make every yard, but he was in trouble with half a mile to run, finding little extra for pressure, and it was MANGO LADY, a newcomer from the in-form Chris Wall stable who came through to win comfortably in the end.
A daughter of Dalakhani and half-sister to three winners, including King Edward VII Stakes winner High Accolade, she is certainly bred to be a useful middle-distance filly. While this bare form probably does not amount to a great deal, she won in good style despite showing signs of inexperience. There should be improvement to come from her, and another two furlongs is unlikely to bother her.
Hammer, another representing a stable in good form at present, was stepping up two furlongs in distance and tackling fast ground for the first time. He looked the likeliest winner three furlongs out, but in the end he was easily seen off by the filly. This still looked like a bit of an improved effort from him, though.
Stormy View, racing without the blinkers this time, is pretty exposed now and the return to turf did not spark any improvement.
