YADDREE defied an absence of almost two months with a decisive success on his first run beyond 1m. He was always well placed considering the way the race was run and showed a really good attitude to get the better of Cat Junior in a protracted dual with that rival. Now he has proven his stamina for 1m1f he is likely to take his chance in the Cambridgeshire, for which he has picked up a 4lb penalty. He is progressing into a smart colt and deserves his chance.
Cat Junior, without the tongue-tie this time, was the best off at the weights and had no less than 15lb in hand over the winner, so this could be considered slightly disappointing. However, Jamie Spencer was of the opinion that he simply did not stay and it would be no surprise to see him dropped back to 1m or even 7f next time.
This was a big step up for Acclaimed after his impressive debut success in a Windsor maiden, and it was surprising he was not taking the handicap route, but he ran well. He is open to more improvement and should make a nice four-year-old, but the handicapper is unlikely to be kind
.Godolphin's second string Igor Protti did not get the best of runs through against the far rail and had to switch, so he is a little better than he showed. He also gave the impression a stronger pace would have suited better.
Alfathaa, with the blinkers refitted, was far too keen for his own good early on, but he still finished clear of the remainder, who were well beaten. [RW]
