Romantic Verse raced keenly, chased leader, ridden to lead over 1f out, driven out
Plumage always prominent, switched right over 1f out, ridden and went 2nd just inside final furlong, not quicken
Beetuna held up and behind, pushed along and headway on inside over 2f out, ridden and one pace final furlong
Miss Phoebe held up in touch, pushed along over 3f out, outpaced 2f out, ridden and kept on inside final furlong
Wiseman´s Diamond held up in touch, ridden over 2f out, edged left over 1f out, no impression final furlong
Spent held up in mid-division, came wide straight, soon weakened
Lujano held up in rear, ridden and some progress final furlong, never near leaders
Semah Harold dwelt, towards rear, ridden and headway well over 1f out, eased when beaten towards finish
Gainshare took keen hold, soon behind
Connor´s Choice led, ridden and headed over 1f out, weakened final furlong
Bahamian Princess always behind, lost touch well over 1f out
The fitting of blinkers certainly worked for ROMANTIC VERSE, who was a little free in them early on but responded well when driven up to challenge and stayed on well. Her sole previous win had come over course and distance back in November 2007, and though she had shown bits of form recently, her best runs have been at this track. She is headed for the sales in the autumn.
Plumage wasa well-fancied favourite and travelled like a winner tracking the leader into the straight, but had no finishing thrust near the end, and looked a little short of resolve.
Miss Phoebe was dropping in grade here and ran better than her recent turf outings, getting outpaced on the home turn before staying on.
Wiseman's Diamond was prominent early but her effort petered out by the home turn.
The other joint-favourite, Semah Harold, missed the break and was always fighting a lost cause thereafter.
