Skip Two mid-division, progress into 3rd 3 out, ridden to dispute lead from 2 out, headed briefly inside final furlong, rallied and led again final strides
Spes Ultima mid-division, progress into 4th travelling well 3 out, disputed lead from 2 out, soon ridden, led briefly inside final furlong, kept on and headed final strides
Keys Pride tracked leaders, progress to lead after 3 out, ridden and joined 2 out, soon headed, kept on same pace
Florrie´s Boy prominent, led 6 out, ridden and headed after 3 out, no impression straight
Five O Venture mid-division, no impression from 4 out
Crafty Don tracked leaders, ridden and weakened from 3 out
Arklow Ger in rear, no impression from 5 out, remote 5th and eased straight
John Dillinger always behind, tailed off
Captain Lyford always towards rear, tailed off
Ogre D´Estruval led, headed 6 out, soon weakened, pulled up before 2 out
Mister Benedictine always towards rear, pulled up before 2 out
Held up early, the winner made decent progress to travel on the heels of the leaders at the fourth-last. Challenged on the inside early in the straight, he thoroughly outbattled the runner-up having been headed on the run-in.
It's hard to be too complimentary about Spes Ultima, but having seen him before it shouldn't have been too much of a surprise. He was never far from the pace and challenged on the outside entering the straight, but having headed the Skip Two on the run-in he was quite reluctant and was outbattled. He would have to be treated with more than a deal of caution after this effort.
The first three were a mile clear of recent Clonmel scorer Florrie's Boy, who led early but was under pressure when headed three out and soon was beaten.
Morning price favourite Arklow Ger surprisingly ran in spite of the ground, but he was never a factor at any stage. [JOH]
