Having fallen with the race won at Ballinrobe last time over a longer trip, it might have been expected for similar tactics to have been tried on The Boxer Coffey. In the end, he didn't go out to expressly try and make all as he did last time, although the ground was much better on that occasion. Ruby was content to sit second for most of the way while his mount was a bit keen. He took it up three out and pinged the second-last, but the winner swept past him at that point and he couldn't find any extra.
Imco Tendence just appeared not to stay on the ground. Held up off the pace, he made stylish progress on the outside after the third-last and was travelling like a winner turning into the straight where he was brought into the centre of the track. He was soon floundering, though, and beaten, cominghome very tired.
There were a couple of eyecatchers. Long-time absentee Sharabid stayed on under a hands-and-heels ride from some way back to be nearest at the finish, as did hurdling debutant Opatja, for whom there was a small market move in the morning.
La Carlota was reported by rider Paddy Flood to havebeen whining during running and was pulled up. The Turf Club vet found him to be clinically abnormal post race. Howareyayoungfella, who was reported to be lame post race. [JOH]
