Analyis of the race

An excellent performance from PROFOUND BEAUTY, her first start in handicap company having been a shade disappointing in stakes company this season. Pat Smullen was content to track the leaders before taking it up a furlong and a half out, and when hitting the front the filly's response was impressive as she drew readily clear inside the last. Perhaps the steadier pace of this contest suited her better, but she's clearly superior to handicap company and this was a return to her very best. A return to stakes company looks imminent on the back of this.

Again, it was a race that not many horses managed to get into. The Last Hurrah was there or thereabouts for most of the journey and stayed on well inside the last to chase home the winner. He's nota horse that has run too many bad races in his racing career and this was a very decent effort, albeit against a filly that's in a different league to him.

The Premier Handicap route will give Vincenzio Galilei the best chance of winning again andthis was a good effort. It was a good tactical ride by Keagan Latham as well, as after dashing this fellow to the front early on, he proceeded to steady the pace and attempted to kick on about two furlongs out. The horse wasn't good enough to get away from his rivals and was outclassed by the winner. It may even be worth stepping him up in trip.

Staying on pretty well from just offthe pace was Dand Nee. She had closed up to have a chance a furlong and a half out but in the end she just kept on at one pace inside the last furlong.

Eagle's Pass ran a very solid race. He tracked the leaders most of the way and just wasn't quite good enough to keep his position when the pace quickened in the straight, but he kept on very effectively inside the last.

Glitter Baby kept on at one pace having been close to the pace for much of the journey while Galistic kept on in pleasing enough fashion. The disappointment of the race was Munnings, who could never get competitive at any stage. [JOH]
