Following two runs out of the frame, the runner-up Welsh Magic put up by far a personal best here with a decent effort to chase home the winner, and after being held up initially, she appeared to come with a winning challenge over 1f out. However, she was one-paced inside the closing stages but ran well nevertheless.
Zarilan looked a possible winner 2f out when going best of most having travelled prominently under Rory Cleary, but he was tapped for toe inside the final 2f and possiblya step back in trip may see him benefit in the short term. This was another decent effort however after filling the same position on his only previous run.
Gunavira had finished fifth on his only race as a juvenile and it was the same again for the son of Green Desert on his first start as a three-year-old, while at one stage halfway up the straight, it appeared as though Rio Grande may make all and still held a clear lead 3f out. However, earlier exertions took their toll and he faded badly inside the final furlong. Cothrom Na Feinne was one of the market principals here but never looked like seriously threatening before staying on again close home.[RC]
