A half-brother to the day's maiden winner earlier on the card, Westphalia, the winner had yet to taste victory in any of his previous seven starts but he always looked like playing a big role here having raced prominently for Johnny Murtagh.Positioned in fourth turning into the straight, the son of Kingmambo made his move over 2f out and having hit the front inside the final furlong, he was gradually moving clear of his opposition inside the closing stages. Despite this success, the winner is likely to be campaigned in similar company for the short-term future and he would have no difficulty in stepping up to 1m4f based on this performance.
Angels Story came here on the back of a win at Down Royal six days earlier and having raced prominently from the outset, she took up the running into the straight and still led 2f out. However, the challenge from the winner was soon to come and despite not going down without a fight, she always looked like coming out second best.
Lunduv had won on his previous start at Leopardstown but he appeared most unlucky having been hampered in the early stages and losing considerable ground. He did manage to get back into the race and came with a challenge on the outside inside the final 3f and appeared always to be closing on the leaders.
Void Moon was another of the prominent runners to have a say here after he had initially made the running before allowing Lidana to take up the pace. He kept on at one pace when overhauled inside the final 2f, while best of the remainder was the staying-on Choir Singer, who like the winner, wouldn't be inconvenienced by a step up in trip.[RC]
