Having been tested in Group races earlier in the season, Sharleez was returning from a slight lay-off after disappointing at Gowran Park on her previous start but she confirmed her trainer's promise in her by taking this well sought-after prize in very good fashion.
Tracking the leaders until just over 2f out, it was at this stage that Michael Kinane made his move and it was here where the destination of this contest was determined as the winner soared to the front. Leading over 1f out, she still had enough in reserve to hold off the challenges of both Almass and Killinan to win with possibly a little bit up her sleeve. Having landed this premier handicap, the winner is now likely to have another crack at Pattern-race company and this confidence-boosting success could be the start of a promising sequence.
Almass had already tasted victory on two separate occasions this season heading into this race but despite not winning here, this was probably a further improvement on what she had shown so far. Given a prominent ride, she hit the front 2f out but was swamped up by the winner soon after. However, she wasn't going away at the finish despite never looking like getting her head back in front.
Indiana Gal was sent off favourite and after being settled in mid-division in the early stages, she appeared to become outpaced over 2f out before running on again close home, while Zorija Rose raced much more prominently but having tracked the leaders to the 2f marker, was one-paced from there onwards.
Labaqa looked one likely to have a say in the finish when she travelled as well as anything to the 2f marker but appeared to find very little when asked, while Mystical Lady raced mid-division before coming under pressure past the 3f marker. She was saying on again inside the final furlong.
Sheena Collins had won this race last year with Redstone Dancer and her sister Tracey was doubly represented here with Queen Jock and Ashton Girl and while the former raced with the leaders until fading off from 2f out, Ashton Girl wasn't helped by an awkward start and could never get involved.
Top weight Mooretown Lady appeared to have a stiff task conceding weight to her rivals and that's how it panned out as she was another who failed to have any kind of say [RC]
