A typical sprint handicap for this venue, with plenty of runners and a few hard-luck stories. This was a well overdue success for GANDOLFINI. He had gone close on several occasions last season and had run well last time at Navan, so the signs were there.

Racing just off the pace, the winner came with a sustained run from over a furlong out to get to the front inside the last and then held on for victory. Even at that he seemed to get to the front soon enough. Everything worked out for him, though, and it was a deserved success.

Tornadodancer didn't really get the run of the race and was a shade unlucky. Racing off the pace, he didn't have too many horses in front of him a furlong and a half out and didn't enjoy the clearest of passages. Hecame home well inside the last and probably would have got up in a few strides.

Desert Ben enjoyed the run of the race and travelled well the whole way in the front rank. He just about had the lead a furlong out until Gandolfini came to take it up, but he ran all the way to the line and was cutting the deficit again at the finish.

Perhaps even more eyecatching was handicap and seasonal debutant Connyella. She was outpaced early on, but made up good late ground and really ran on well once hitting the rising ground inside the final furlong. One stepping up a furlong in trip, she certainly looks well enough handicapped to win.

Denanto was coming here after winning over 1m1f at Ballinrobe. She showed a good bit of early speed before fading inside the last, while fellow joint-favourite Radiator Rooney could never get into a challenging position. [JOH]
