Analyis of the race

A really good finish to this race and three game individuals fought out a real battle.

EMOTIONAL ARTICLE put up as good a performance as he has managed over fences to date. He travelled close to the front or in the lead throughout and apart from a slight mistake at the third last his jumping was fine. They all looked in trouble when the eventual third went to the front three out but this fellow kept plugging away and fought out a terrific duel with the runner-up from before the second last. He showed some reserves of toughness to win this. He'll have one more run for connections to judge whether he's good enough to contest the Galway Plate.

Dom Fontenail has more of the hallmarks of a dour stayer than his main rivals, and perhaps over a longer trip he might be able to turn the tables. He was always towards the front but was the first of the leading trio to come under pressure before the second last. He certainly responded well and lost very little in coming out second best to a game winner.

Team Allstar has shown a marked preference for a sound surface in the past, and on another day he might well have won. Racing prominently, he travelled well to get to the front three out but as it turned out he seemed to get there plenty soon enough. He was headed before the last but once the other two went past him he rallied and ran to the line to be only beaten a length and a half.

The remainder were well beaten. Rugged Man didn't run a bad race and managed to stay in touch until about four out. He kept on at one pace from there.

Mon Oiseau was prominent for the first half of the race but was going backwards from the fourth last.

Fellow joint-favourite Nassaro was held up in rear, but was never travelling after a bad blunder atthe seventh fence. He was tailed off when pulled up before the second last. [JOH]
