Roos Abu towards rear, some headway into 7th 3f out, ridden over 2f out, kept on final furlong

Packsapunch led, ridden and headed under 2f out, soon no extra

Senor Tommie dwelt, towards rear for most, never a factor

Final Drive mid-division, 7th halfway, ridden 3f out, soon no extra

Unconsoled chased leaders, 3rd halfway, ridden to challenge 2f out, no extra in 4th 1 1/2f out, soon weakened

Rugino Blues always towards rear, weakened over 1f out, tailed off

They finished well strung out in blustery conditions in this opening contest, which was won in some style by TOSACH NUA. He broke well and settled pretty well in the leading group. He was ridden for a few strides about three furlongs out but soon gotinto gear, sustained his run from there and went away. He could be useful enough and will step up in grade after this.

There was plenty of pre-race word for newcomer Imprudent Miss and she ran very well. Racing on the inside rail most of the way, she met a bit of trouble in running two furlongs out and ran a bit green for a number of strides when getting racing room but did run on well inside the last. While not good enough to master this winner, she pulled well clear of the remainder and could well be useful in her own right.

Croisultan was very keen and showed some early speed in the manner of a horse that might be worth trying at the minimum trip. He faded from the front a furlong or so from the finish, although the rider did report that the saddle slipped early on.

Roos Abu did his best work at the finish without ever being involved, while Packsapunch also showed plenty of early speed but was a spent force from about two furlongs out. (JOH)
