The gelded son of Mull Of Kintyre had encountered trouble in running at a critical stage when sent off the 5-4 favourite for a 50-80 handicap over 7f at this venue three weeks ago. Despite pulling hard in the early stages here, he soon settled into a nice rhythm, and brought wide into the straight in search of the better ground, soon reduced the deficit to get his head in front inside the final furlong. Another handicap over this trip is on the agenda and he might even be more effective on a quicker surface.
Hampstead Heath had run consistently over longer trips, but this was his best display when keeping on well under pressure to snatch second close home.
The same could be said of Graceful Star, who hadn't run since last November. The ground was good to firm when she recorded her sole success in a Roscommon 7f maiden last September. If she encounters quicker ground after this comeback run, she might be on a competitive mark.
Mid Mon Lady travelled well in second into the straight, but she was soon struggling to maintain that momentum when the tempo increased. (BF)
