PENSCHESCO did not look particularly well treated for this handicap debut, certainly on a maiden line with Rondeau. Connections reported last time that firm ground did not agree with this colt and the key to him is softer ground, which he clearly enjoyed. He was plenty keen enough early and raced midpack. He could not initially go with the pace inside the last three furlongs but won going away so it was no surprise the winning rider reported that 1m2f might suit. On similar ground, he can defy the handicapper's reaction.
Golden Penny has done nothing wrong in adding another placing since his Fibresand win. Again the ground looked to suit, but he was just out on his own too long.
Muharjam remains unexposed and this handicap debut suggests he wants further.
Rondeau was only plugging on at the one pace through the final two furlongs after chasing the pace and he is probably better on good ground.
Coole Dodger should not be written off as his rider dropped his reins going to the final furlong as last week's penalised winner was making ground. He was staying on with his rider accepting the situation and remains in top form, not showing his usual inclination to hang right on this testing ground.
