The first race dictated that they all raced towards the inside rail, cutting down the low-drawn advantage. DESERT ICON still deserves rating better than his still authoritative success as he was stuck on the midtrack wing of the pack from his high draw. Only able to cross over when taking command going to the final furlong, he was driven clear but still showed signs of greenness. He has the Newbury Super Sprint entry but connections feel he is not a pure sprinter as this 6f win suggests. He could head for Goodwood and as a compact and atheletic colt, should handle the track well enough.

Whisky Jack and Cawdor were both betrayed by their inexperience. Both hung badly across the intersection when in front. Whisky Jack also stumbled on the groundwhen trying to give chase to the winner as he swept past and across him. As such, he can build considerably on the bare form.

Daily Double lost his chance at the start but was staying on nicely to suggest better to come.
