A surprise to this 1m4f handicap with victory going to ROWAN RIO, who won a Polytrack maiden on his debut, but didn't shine on the same surface on his only previous run in a handicap. However, making his turf debut, and stepped up to 1m4f, he showed plenty of determination, scoring driven out having shaken off several challengers in the straight. With several of the in-form horses not running up to their best, the form may not prove cast iron, but even so the winner is unexposed on grass and clearly stays well.

Mezzanisi travelled up going well in the straight, and two out, appeared to be going better than the winner, but he couldn't quicken on the ground, though he kept on late on and certainly didn't fail through lack of stamina.

Red Lily was well backed, but after moving up with a chance three furlongs out, was soon ridden and beaten. She lacks scope.

Oberlin was a one-paced fifth, but these five were a long way clear of the others.

Precision Break, up in the weights, but in fine form, didn't seem to act on this testing ground, and Ovthenight, another in good form, also seemed to find the ground too testing.
