Rory Cleary drawn in gate 12 aboard Upper Village closest to the white flag man understandably attempted to pull his mount up and in the process lost any chance. The initial culprit Point Calimere gained little advantage as a result of breaking the gate and the end result of all this was a narrow victory for DANETIME LILY. The case was referred on for further investigation.
Connections of the winner obviously expressed a sigh of relief after the ‘winner all right' was called as a void race looked a possibility.
Full credit to the winner as this is her optimum trip and she stuck her head outwhere it mattered for her fourth career win over 5f.
The eye-catcher of the race was runner-up Baggio, who was narrowing the gap with every stride after coming from well off the pace entering the final furlong. Considering this was his first startsince last September, he should be sharper next time and looks well capable of adding another victory to his tally on this evidence.
Peak District overcame a slow start when his gate appeared to open slower than the others for a never nearer fourth, while Fly By Magic showed more like her penultimate start at Cork, appreciating this drop back in class.
Shinko Dancer showed good early speed but was unable to maintain that momentum entering the final furlong running from 3lb out of the handicap proper, while La Sylvia, contesting her first handicap, was another to weaken after showing good speed early.
Several replays of the start showed the stall 7 occupied by Peak District appeared to open a fraction slower than the others, while Grigorovitch was another slowly away.[BF]
