Analyis of the race

A good tough performance from the veteran GORTHNACURRA, emerging best from a contest that any of six could have won turning into the straight. He didn't look the most likely to score out two out, but emerged in front at the final fence on his favoured firm ground and stayed on strongly to win going away. He's a veteran but a relatively lightly-raced one and there's no reason why he shouldn't win again.

Held up early on, Battle Axe began to stay on from the top of the hill and just kept going at the same pace from there. He didn't stay on to the same effect as the winner but ran a fine race.

Supply And Fix was employed in his usual front-running role and to his credit he kept on going. He had the inside berth most of the way and might have been second but for a mistake at the final fence.

There was a disappointing run from favourite Mister Buttons. His jumping frailties showed up a bit, especially when trying to get into the race on the final circuit. He wasn't going to be winning from the third-last and just kept on at one pace.

The unlucky horse if there was one was Mad For Action. Held up off the pace, he began to make good progress after three out, and of the sextet in with a chance of winning he travelled best of all coming to two out. A sluggish jump there left him with a few lengths to find coming to the last and he ran around a bit but still had a chance when falling at the final obstacle.

Winning Dream was prominent most of the journey and had every chance turning in while being hard driven, but he was beaten when he stumbled and unseated his rider a number of strides after the last.
