Left in front quite early, he jumped well from the front after that but looked likely to be swamped after the second-last. To his credit, though, he battled on well up the inside as the likely winner fell and the runner-up didn't possess the same battling qualities. He'll go for another novice contest and may well improve a bit more.
Spes Ultima tracked the winner most of the way and when the first two kicked on coming down the hill he looked all over the winner. However, he couldn't shake off the eventual scorer and would have been third but for the incident at the last. He flattered to deceive in quite a major way and looks one to treat with a bit of caution.
The first two pulled a distance clear of everything else. One that ran no race at all was previous Tipperary winner Paolo Soprani. This trip was probably a bit short of his best, but having been hampered by an early faller he wasn't travelling from early on the final circuit and finished tailed off.
