ACROSTIC is a good-looking individual who was getting off the mark at the third time of asking. He ought to have won on his previous start at Windsor, but he hung left and right there to throw away victory in a race whose form has worked out nicely. He is just the type of horse with which Luca Cumani excels, so his future in handicaps could be bright.
Alsace Lorraine, a 480,000gn yearling, is bred to be smart, and it will be a major surprise if she cannot win races based on the evidence of this her first run. Not given anything like a hard time, she ran on into second and might well have won had the kitchen sink treatment been thrown at her. Significant improvement should be in the offing with this experience behind her.
The connections of Gifted Leader will have been delighted with his debut, while Soviet would have finished closer to the winner but for being hampered entering the final furlong.
Liberally's run is best ignored as her rider had to complete the contest with feet out of the irons.
