FLYING GREY was making his debut for Tim Vaughan and could hardly have been more impressive, albeit at this lowly level. He moved up stylishly down the back straight, led on the bridle before the second-last and pulled steadily away from thatpoint. He had shown ability for previous yards, but is clearly an altogether different customer with his new trainer and will be brought out under a penalty before the handicapper takes punitive action.
Fuel Cell passed plenty of horses in the final stages to claim second and offers the quality of the form a useful marker, having won only a moderate claimer at Wetherby on his previous start. He remains in good heart, though, and could pay his way in a similar grade.
Dee Jay Wells didn't always jump fluently. First Boy took up the running before the fourth-last flight but capitulated quickly once challenged.
