POCKET TOO returned to form. He was well held over hurdles on his last run but had won at Great Leighs the time before. His chance may well have been improved by the rain as he had plenty of form on soft. A multiple winner in his time under both codes, he has served connections well but this win came off a career-high mark over hurdles and he will possibly struggle next time.
Things did not look good for Nanga Parbat down the back straight, as he was being pushed along a bit, so he did well to make up the ground he forfeited. The 5lb rise in the weights may have had an effect, but he is an infrequent winner and had never won two in a row before. That said, you can hardly knock the performance but this is probably as good as he is.
Nothing appeared to being going better than Bantry Bere leaving the back straight and he looked sure to be placed. However, he found little up the home straight for pressure and may well have needed this after an absence. Dovedale ran as well as could have been expected, while Seafield Bogie did not show a great deal on his first start over hurdles since 2006. Mikado had no record of going well fresh and failed to get involved. [DT]
