There was plenty of money for ARISEA and punters were rewarded, but only just. Sam Jones was at his strongest in a driving finish to hold off the runner-up. It had been a while since her last success, so it is impossible to know what to expect next time, but she was bought in for 4,250gns afterwards.
Rawaabet was probably a shade unlucky not to win as he was only just mugged close to the line. Things may have been different had he cleared the final four fences cleanly. He gave most of them a proper whack, which will have made the difference. He was claimed after the race.
Ride of the day or the week must go to Tony McCoy on Rapscallion, as his mount was not in a greatmood from an early stage. Bond Cruz was unlucky not to get third, as a mistake at the last, which sent his jockey sideways, stopped him in his tracks. However, he had been yanking his jockey's arms out for much of the race and was probably starting to run on empty.
The horse that really caught the eye was Zamboozle. Anchored in the rear early, he looked to be making headway jumping the last in the back straight, but he never got into a challenging position and was hardly given a hard time to do so. Having his first start for Evan Williams, and with a tongue tie and cheekpieces on, one has to presume he is not very straightforward. [DT]
