Analyis of the race

A moderate bunch of novices. They ran in in steady rain, which had only just begun to get into the ground. They went no pace at all early on, but even so, the first five home had the race to themselves from before the turn out of the back straight.

LEAMINGTON LAD, for all that he was getting his head in front for the first time in 17 starts, probably didn't have to improve on the pick of his placed form in a race of this calibre. Always travelling ominously well, he fluffed his lines a little at the last, which gave the runner-up a sniff of a chance, but he was always in command on the run-in.

Marigolds Way ran in snatches and kept on for a respectable fourth, but Tara Queen, despite the luxury of a soft lead at a sedate pace, went out quickly once challenged. [NQ]
