Having failed to reach his reserve price at the sales, he was retained by the National Stud, but he is unlikely to prove so unpopular when he returns to the sales ring later this year as he looks a potentially interesting hurdles prospect for the future with his half-brother Golden Feather havingalready scored in that sphere.
He wasn't obviously well-treated off 72, but had scope for improvement and could well defy a rise in the weights for this win, especially given that he twice got involved in scrimmaging early in the home straight that saw him come quickly off the bridle. But the way he picked up again suggested that a move up to a mile and a quarter would not be against him and there wasn't much to dislike about the way he kept on galloping down the centre of the track.
Mark Johnston enjoyed some good times with Bonny Rose's dam Marina Park and al four of her progeny to race in Britain have been victorious. Having tried to make all, she battled on well once headed by the winner and may find another race, perhaps against her own age and sex.
Moonlight Man was well held when his jockey lost his whip and the incident made no difference to the result, but he did at least finish nicely ahead of the remainder and it was a better effort than offered in some of his recent performances.
