Masada, whose last two runs (after a couple of unplaced efforts in Listed company) had been in 0-85 handicaps, and this slight drop in class saw her gain a narrow win. She was inclined to edge right in the closing stages, and this ground was probably on the quick side for her.
Oarsman, who reportedly returned distressed when a beaten favourite for a 7f Folkestone maidenlast time, was here making his handicap debut. He coped with the drop in trip well enough, but again gave the impression he might not have been entirely happy on the fast ground.
Bosun Breese, who has been running over 5f, cut out a good pace, but he effectively set the race up for the stouter stayers.
