NIGHTJAR was not immune, going right all the way from the furlong mark, but that did not stop him forging clear in the last 100 yards for an emphatic victory.
The winner, who cost $200,000 as a yearling, had finished down the field in two previous outings on the all-weather at Lingfield, and on this evidence he is more at home on turf.
Storm Sir, second to subsequent Greenham Stakes winner Paco Boy on his debut at Newbury last September, had failed to build on that promise in two outings since. But he bounced back to something like his Newbury form here and would have given Nightjar a race of it but for being hamperedby the hanging Mille Feuille a furlong out.
Cigalas, another horse making a return toaction after a ten-month break, had hung right when last seen at Doncaster last September and did so again here. Michael Hills reported his saddle slipped.
