JUDGETHEMOMENT, outclassed but far from disgraced in Royal Ascot's Queen's Vase, had plenty of use made of him but looked set to be beaten when Spring Dream, who had travelled well, poked her nose up on his inside going to the furlong pole. There was plenty of room at the time, and Spring Dream got upsides and then very narrowly in front. However, Judgethemoment rolled over towards her twice, and on the second occasion there was contact, Judgethemomemt bumping Spring Dream and pushing her against the rail. With Dettori putting his whip down, Judgethemoment went on to win by a head, rather than one of the two narrower margins, and the stewards took the view that the result was not affected, although they did find him guilty of careless riding. Judgethemoment has improved for longer trips and will be suited by a return to 2m.
Swingkeel had been disappointing on his handicap debut, but he came here the least exposed in the field and he ran a really good race, keeping on under pressure towards the outside and closing still on the two principals at the finish. A step up to 2m looks in order before long.
Alnwick, up another 5lb for his win in a weak race at Warwick, was only narrowly beaten and also ran respectably.
