Oasis Knight settled in midfield, shaken up and effort over 2f out, hanging over 1f out, stayed on final furlong to take 3rd near finish

Those with previous form looked nothing special, so this was at the mercy of any half-decent newcomer. The Dansili colt ZACINTO fitted the bill, because his stable won the corresponding race with its last two runners, the dam Ithaca, a daughter of Oaks winner Reams Of Verse, was an impressive winner over the trip on her debut and went on to be Group-placed, and the dogs were barking on Newmarket Heath. He looked the part in the preliminaries, too, and although he was green and babyish, he won so impressively in the end that he is now favourite for the 2,000 Guineas at just 10-1 with VCbet, and 14-1 elsewhere. Never far away as the Gosden pair cut out the running, he showed signs of greenness when pulled to the outside to challenge over a furlong out,but soon got down to it and then powered right away, pushed right out and given a proper education. He will step up in class, sticking to 7f for the time being. There are several options.

The headgear so soon on Newmarket Seminole was hardly an encouraging sign, although his half-brother Le Vie Dei Colori put up his career-best performance when winning the Challenge Stakes in a first-time visor. Jumped straight out in front, Seminole made the running until outclassed by a highly promising rival. He can obviously be found easier opportunities.

Mt Kintyre was a springer in the market but never looked like winning. He must have been showing plenty, but his stable is not renowned for first-time-out juvenile winners. He will probably do a lot better with the benefit of this experience.

The rest were beaten upwards of 15 lengths, so enthusiasm for their immediate prospects is limited. Appraisal, however, lost all chance at the start.
