Crimson Fern tracked leaders on inner, eased off rail from well over 1f out, effort on outer and ran on to lead last 100yds, soon clear
Tabaret tracked leading trio, ridden to challenge 1f out, upsides final furlong, outpaced by winner last 100yds
Osiris Way pressed leader, led just over 1f out, headed and no extra last 100yds
Strike Up The Band led, driven and headed just over 1f out, faded inside final furlong
Playful tracked leading pair, close up and waiting for gap over 1f out, not clear run and snatched up just inside final furlong, one pace after
Tony The Tap slowly into stride, settled in last pair but outpaced after 2f, stayed on from over 1f out, nearest finish
Sohraab held up in midfield, some progress on inner 2f out, not clear run briefly over 1f out, kept on same pace final furlong
Bazroy slowly into stride, outpaced in last trio after 2f, kept on final furlong, no chance
Sundae never beyond midfield, ridden and no progress 2f out, slightly checked over 1f out, weakened final furlong
The Jobber never beyond midfield and always struggling to go the pace, ridden before halfway, no progress
Fantasy Believer always in last trio, struggling from halfway
CRIMSON FERN had been drawn 13 of 13 when gaining her last winhere, and the draw was kind to her again, although she wasn't well away and had to be chased along briefly to get a decent position on the rail. She needed easing to the outside over a furlong out in order to launch her challenge, but once she saw daylight she showed a smart turn of foot for a clear win, which is not that common in 5f handicaps here on this sort of ground. Trainer Malcolm Saunders will look for some black type soon, and she ought to be competitive in fillies' Listed company at least.
Tabaret came here in good form but having had every chance inside the final furlong, he was readily swept aside by the winner.
Strike Up The Band showed bags of speed and managed to cross over to the rail and do easily best of those who were drawn low.
Playful was short of room just inside the final furlong but probably would not have troubled the winner. Tony The Tap came from last place for a respectable sixth, doing best of those coming from off the pace.
Favourite Sohraab was making ground when checked over a furlong out, but he did not look unlucky as such. Trainer Hughie Morrison implied afterwards that the gelding might not be the most manoeuvrable and prefers to run hard and fast in a straight line.
Sundae would have preferred softer ground.
