It is a long time since Niteowl Lad won a race, but he did enough here to suggest there ought to be a similar race in him.
Alexander Hurricane was giving weight all round and, blinkered for the first time, ran to something like his best. A step back up to 6f would not go amiss.
Triple Shadow was unruly before the start and then ducked right when the stalls opened. He clearly was not on good terms with himself and under the circumstances he ran a decent race. It was a much improved effort and as he has dropped a deal in the weights there may be a little race in him when in a good mood.
Yungaburra missed the break and, though making some headway after halfway, he was never able to really figure. He had some useful form as a juvenile and on his previous run at Hamilton he had left some encouragement that he could be on the way back.
