Hurricane Spirit led, ridden and headed 1f out, no extra and lost 2nd close home

Johannes took keen hold towards rear, headway over 2f out, ridden and one pace final furlong

Little Edward held up, headway over 1f out, ridden and one pace final furlong

Golden Dixie prominent, ridden 2f out, weakened inside final furlong

Ajigolo took keen hold in mid-division, shaken up 1f out, soon beaten

Analyis of the race

A very open affair but it was taken with some authority by the near veteran PAWAN, who looks as good as ever on this evidence. He actually got in here off a fair mark if the handicapper is correct as he is due to go up 7lb for getting beaten in a better race than this last time from the weekend. This was his 113th racecourse appearance so it is hard to say he is unexposed, especially as he has run up a string of placed efforts since last scoring. Connections are now somewhat fancifully eyeing the Stewards' Cup at Goodwood as long as the ground is not fast or the Scottish version of the race at Hamilton, where the ground may well be more to his liking.

Orpenindeed has yet to open his account in this country and he is another who needs a favour from the handicapper. Hurrricane Spirit was held by the winner on their Goodwood running in May but was beaten further this time so perhaps the from will stand up.
