Watergate made all, clear 1f out, eased towards finish
Tropical Blue tracked leaders, went 2nd over 2f out, eased when no chance with winner inside final furlong
Digger Derek chased leaders, outpaced and lost place 4f out, headway on outside over 2f out, edged left, kept on final furlong
Across The Rhine slowly into stride, held up, chceked bend over 4f out, headway over 2f out, never a threat
Woteva soon chasing leaders, driven over 2f out, weakened over 1f out
Pacific Bay chased leaders, driven over 3f out, weakened 2f out
Kingaroo slowly into stride, soon driven along, never on terms
Franali started slowly, always in rear
No obvious world-beaters among the five two-year-olds in this median auction maiden to have raced but four had at least made the frame and WATERGATE, whose trainer Sir Mark Prescott had won this race three times since 1999, looked to show improved form with a most emphatic victory, soon in front, making all and coming well clear in the straight. He had shaped promisingly on his debut at Haydock and he may not have found the the firmer ground in his favour next time - this step up to 7f also looked to suit him.
Tropical Blue improved for his first run and looked to find a little further progress, going second over 2f out and keeping on to draw clear of the rest without threatening the winner. He may do better again and is now qualified for nurseries.
So should Irish challenger Across The Rhine, a big colt who would not be an obvious sort for this tight course.
Woteva was again below her best while Pacific Bay did not get home on this step up in trip.
Franali spoilt her chance with a slow start on her debut.
