Analyis of the race
The two top-weights had each gained his most recent success in selling company and this was a plating-class handicap. But EMPEROR'S WELL had been an unlucky-in-running third 12 months previously, had hinted more than once this year that he retained ability and took advantage of his lowly mark under a finely-judged ride, soon in front, making all and having just enough left to hold on.
However Anduril may be the one to take from the race as he came from a most unpromising position and had to wait for a run but finished strongly to grab second place close home. He had won off the same mark earlier in the season and clearly retains the ability to go close in modest company.
The upped-in-trip Sea Land was gambled on but was ridden three furlongs out and never threatened - he may have shown something at home but he has yet to prove on the track this year that he retains his ability.
