There were a typically wide range of abilities on display but a couple of those with experience had already shown themselves up to winning and some of the newcomers appealed as likely sorts.
Newcomer PRIME DELIVERY had reportedly been under consideration for the Gimcrack, and though he was eventually not entered when entries closed hours before this race he clearly has plenty of ability judged on this most encouraging debut, keeping on well to lead in the final 75 yards of a contest that few got into. He is likely to be given another month before his next run and will clearly do very well to match last year's winner of this race but this good-looking colt, a $100,000 yearling, fully deserves a crack at better company.
Cosmic Sun did not have the speed to cope with 5f at Ripon on his debut but looked to have learned from that and showed a good deal more here, always to the fore. He should improve again.
Sirenuse was another newcomer to catch the eye and she may well have won but for her inexperience as she looked to be going well when leading over two furlongs out, only to hang left and ultimately manage no better than fourth. The way she travelled was a sign of her ability, she will have learned from this and she should go very close next time.
Fellow debutant Aahaygran, a $110,000 yearling, also showed ability, looking green but keeping on nicely. She will do better, as will Mary Mason, who looked backward on her debut but made late ground.
