The combination of GERANNJO and Ian McCarthy had other ideas, however.
Having stalked the leading pair of Silent Wind and Caravino from the outset, Gerannjo was still travelling well on the heels of that pair after turning into the straight but after initially being asked foran effort before the second last, it wasn't until the final 50 yards that she managed to get her head in front.
Having returned from a layoff to finish third at Tralee two weeks earlier, the winner showed no ill-effects from that outing to show her battling qualities and having won at the Galway Festival two years ago on good-firm ground, it looks as though Gerannjo could be back at the Ballybrit venue for their 2008 festival.
Jockey Paddy Flood tried to make all on Silent Wind and until the late thrust of the winner, it appeared as though that's what he was going to do. Martin Brassil's charge had appeared to win with something in hand when making all on his previous run at Ballinrobe before this but he did look somewhat reluctant inside the closing stages if the swishing of his tail is any guide. This was another satisfactory effort all the same.
Power Elite travelled in behind the leaders and looked one possibly to get involved in the finish turning into the straight but that challenge never materialised and he looks a horse who continues to be frustrating.
Of the remainder, fifth-placed On Your Way travelled well for a long way but didn't pick up as was expected from the second last onwards, while recent Navan winner Desert Abbey always appeared to be struggling and never jumped with any fluency. She was reported to have been ënever travellingí by Andrew Leigh and perhaps her previous mishap at Listowel affected her confidence.[RC]
