Despite failing to impress with his jumping on his chasing debut, Salford City was much more convincing over his fences this time around and after taking up the running having jumped the fifth last, this was the closest his rivals would get to him from there onwards.
Holding a clear advantage turning into the straight, Salford City looked like an established chaser over the final three fences under Paul Carberry before winning as he liked.
Judging by his best hurdles form, he looks capable of taking on some of the better novice chasers later in the year but good ground appears to be a preference for Gordon Elliot's charge and that could lead to a string of summer chase wins for Salford City. Connections have already stated their desire to go to Saratoga for a valuable hurdle contest in August.
Indian Love did look a possible threat to the winner when turning into the straight but she was easily brushed aside for the second placed spot and possible more restrained tactics may work in her favour next time.
Both Senor Christy and Franc Villez were best of the rest without getting involved, while early race leader Faith Leg did his best to make a race of it with the winner but gave way after making the running until the fifth last.[RC]
