Having won at the course last month before finishing second at the Curragh, the winner did the job in impressive fashion here after travelling well for most of this contest under Fran Berry.
Having raced in third position for the majority of proceedings, Ragged Staff was still full of running well into the straight and after asserting clear over 1f out, he held off the late charge of Strike An Ark comfortably.
With his latest three promising efforts all having come on fast ground, Ragged Staff clearly has preference for the summer ground and he could get similar conditions if lining up in the Ulster Harps Derby later this month before a possible tilt at one of the big 1m4f handicaps at the Galway Festival.
While the winner clearly won this on merit, the unlucky horse of the race was undoubtedly therunner-up Strike An Ark, who lost at least four lengths out of the stalls before staying on well late on.
Phantom Lad raced mid-division and was going well after turning into the straight. However, he appeared to get tapped for toe initially when the tempo increased before staying on again in the closing stages.
Definite Spectacle was given a patient ride from Niall Madden and looked a chief danger to the principals when moving into contention on the outside 2f out but was once-paced from there onwards. Noel Meade's charge dead-heated for fourth place with Head Of The River, who was always prominent and led the field into the straight but faded off soon after.
Unwritten Rule never got into contention having raced mid-division and was under pressure before turning into the straight. This was a disappointing effort compared to his first two starts this season.[RC]
