Racing off a 24lb higher mark than when winning this race 12 months ago, he set a steady enough pace to begin with before gradually quickening it up on the final circuit. When he did that, his brilliant jumping came into play and he used it to perfection to burn off his rivals.
Galway must be in the plans, and it has to be doubtful that he would run over fencesbefore then. However, the handicapper's reaction may well hold the key to that.
Jubilant Note's trainer was somewhat concerned that this track wouldn't play to the strengths of his runner. One couldn't say for definite if that was the case or not,but his main handicap in the end was that he just couldn't jump as fluently as the winner. He closed under pressure early in the straight, but wasn't really making that much of an impression when he jumped a bit slowly at the second-last. That was that as regards winning the race.
Strand Line didn't jump particularly fluently and was always just being niggled a bit to stay in touch when the pace quickened. He kept on at one pace from three out, ahead of Kahuna, who made a couple of errors on his first start for new connections but was running a big race until blundering three out when chasing the leader. He weakened quite quickly after that.
