The gamble was foiled on runner-up Napa Starr. He was very keen early on and they patently failed to go quickly enough for him. He still was travelling very strongly in the straight but didn't pick up in the style he threatened to. His early exertions didn't do him any good, and on this bare evidence he wouldn't be inconvenienced by a drop back in trip, even to six furlongs.
King Royal went close enough to giving the yard a double in both divisions of this race, and looks potentially well-handicapped. Held up and travelling strongly on the inside early, he was pulled out to try and close early in the straight. He just appeared to lug in behind Aliance briefly, but ran onwell when finding his stride. He closed all the way to the line and has enough ability to win a race or two.
Crimson Rose tracked the leaders early but was struggling to go with the leaders turning in, eventually just keeping on at one pace. [JOH]
