Bentesina was 13lb higher following her comfortable Cork handicap win 17 days previously. She edged to the front travelling ominously well after passing the 2f pole but was unable to maintain that momentum well inside the final furlong. With the benefit of hindsight, she might have got there too soon and should make amends off her revised mark.
Breaker Morant more than paid his way a few seasons ago winning successive handicaps in a six-week period on quick ground. He had finished a respectable sixth in a 28-runner handicap at the Curragh last time and more was expected here but he came up short. He probably wants to step back up to a mile or even a shade further these days.
Ginger Princess stepped up on her previous unplaced effort behind Bentesina in Cork but never looked like playing a prominent role. White And Red was upped 8lb for scoring at Sligo in her first handicap. She had a promising position in fourth turning for home but was unable to raise her game in this better race along with Maidin Moch. Let Me Shine, one of two Jim Bolger runners in the field, was fitted with first-time blinkers. She parted company with her rider in the parade ring which didn't help her cause and after racing in the leading group for a time weakened when the race unfolded. Dane Blue broke smartly to race up front but she was never happyon this faster ground when asked to quicken. [BF]
