The debutant was never far away and, allowed to stride on approaching the home turn, he was always doing enough in the straight to keep the pack at bay. He comes from the family of useful chasers Bells Life and Indian Tonic, and should have a future.
Gaye Starlet, half-sister to bumper winner Youlbesolucky, ran very green in the closing stages, tending to hang when asked for her effort. She should come on a lot for this experience.
Santarctique, snapped up by JP McManus after a debut second at Kempton in March, looked very slow here and could make little impression on the leaders when asked for his effort off the home turn.
