Analyis of the race
A race of rapidly changing fortunes in the straight before HAUNTED HOUSE, who hardly looked the likely winner when clouting the fourth-last, kept on under a strong ride to get on top close home.
The winner had run no sort of race at Newton Abbot last time, but he showed here that he retains the ability that saw him win at Ludlow last year, though he would not appear to be the easiest or most straightforward of rides.
Albarino, very disappointing over hurdles at Hereford last time, bounced back to the form he had shown when winning over fences at Ludlow last autumn, but after looking the winner approaching the last, was outbattled on the run-in.
King Diamond ran better than at Southwell last time, where he was too keen for his own good, but could not sustain his challenge late on.
Barney, up 12lb for a recent Hexham win, had every chance two out but fell to nothing on the run to the last and was not persevered with when his chance had gone. This was evidently not his true running.
