Sea Venture had been an excellent second on his hurdles debut at Wetherby last November, but to this point had failed to build on that initial promise. He was making his handicap debut here and, racing off a stiffish mark, turned in a fine effort.
Laureldean Melody, who did not find a great deal under pressure over 2m4f at Wetherby last time, had more use made of her on this drop back in trip but was left behind by the principals in the straight.
