It marked a return to form for SPIRIT OF NEW YORK, who has evidently had his problems since winning three novice chases in the early months of 2007 and had managed just two outings since. He took time to warm to his task here, but steadily made up his ground through the second circuit and looked the likely winner turning for home. However, front-running Mcevoy did not give up without a fight and it was only on the run-in that Spirit Of New York asserted.
Mcevoy had plenty of use made of him over a trip that is on the sharp side for him. He responded well to some strong driving to push Spirit Of New York all the way and, while he does not look the easiest of rides, this was probably his best effort to date.
Veteran Little Big Horse ran as well as could be expected against less-exposed rivals.
Sam Thomas reported that John Diamond had been struck into.
