This maiden hurdle was pretty competitive for the time of year and the step up in trip, a tongue-tie for the first time and more patient tactics helped INDIAN PIPE DREAM get his head in front for the first time over hurdles.
He won over 2m on the Flat, so this distance should have suited, even though his breeding suggests otherwise. Now that he has dropped his maiden tag, and this trip holds no terrors, he might well be able to build on this success.
The Spieler has won a point, but has obviously had his problems as he is now nine and this was only his fourth outing in three years. He showed enough to suggest he should find an opening as long as he comes out of this in good heart.
What A Biscuit was beaten a fair way and he will have to come on from here.
