Daaweitza held up stands' side, driven over 2f out, soon no impression, 2nd of 5 in group

Lone Wolfe prominent far side until weakened over 2f out, eased when no chance, last of 9 in group

The field once again split into two groups here, with five of the runners electing to come stands side. It was the far side, though, which had the call and REDFORD was nothing if not impressive. Held-up and always travelling well within himself, he was denied a clear run, but, once switched, he produced a fine turn of foot to win going away. His trainer insists that 7f or a 1m comes alike to this horse, so long as he is produced late and that Jamie Spencer had admitted that he came too soon on him atRoyal Ascot last time. A return to Ascot for a major 7f handicap is on the cards for him later this month.

The Osteopath, with the ground in his favour, ran a fine race in second, comfortably clear of the rest. Game Lad, winner of this race last year, was racing off a 4lb higher mark this time. He was produced to win his race over a furlong out, but he was unable to sustain his effort inside the last.

Stevie Gee looks to have nothing in hand of the handicapper, while Daaweitza, likewise, is probably in the handicapper's grip after his recent purple patch.

Royal Power was not the only horse on this card who failed to reproduce his Royal Ascot running.
