Every Second made all, quickened away over 1f out, ran on well final furlong and always in command

Countrywide City chased winner until over 3f out, ridden over 1f out, stayed on to take 2nd inside final furlong, not trouble winner

Mazzola chased leaders, went 2nd over 3f out, ridden and outpaced by winner over 1f out, lost 2nd inside final furlong, stayed on same pace after

River Rye held up, effort over 1f out, stayed on inside final furlong, never able to challenge

Ballarina chased leaders, pushed along halfway, weakened over 1f out

That Boy Ronaldo missed break, always outpaced and behind

EVERY SECOND has plenty of speed and Richard Mullen made full use of it, jumping the favourite out quickly from stall three to poach an early advantage and though pressed until off the turn, the colt drew clear impressively from three previous winners. This is the way to ride him and he could be a major player if returning here in two weeks' time.

Countrywide City showed good speed early and resilience too. He had been relegated to third place at the two-furlong marker, but stuck to his task and regained second in the closing stages. He won at Warwick last time and can score again.

River Rye had beaten Every Second at Windsor, but was meeting him on 7lb worse terms and never threatened to confirm the placings. He was never seen with a winning chance.
