Ridden more positively than he sometimes is, he was in front at halfway and, coming to the stands' rail, battled on well under pressure to keep his pursuers at bay. This was his first career success.
Lordship had every chance and kept on for pressure without being quite able to raise his game inside the last.
Charlie Tipple, who went from the inside to the outside about two furlongs out to gain a clear run, kept on under pressure right to the line, without being able to do anything quickly enough. He would probably stay a little further.
The remainder were comfortably held. Shadowtime, who had given the impression he wanted these conditions, was found wanting.
Regent's Secret, winner of the Carlisle Bell two years ago, kept on without being able to challenge; ideally, he wants better ground.
